Many clients know what they want to build but are not always sure what drawings, permissions or technical information may be required before work can begin. ITM Brickwork works with professional architects who can help clients take the next step.

A conversation about an extension, new building or structural alteration often begins with a simple idea: more space, a different layout or a new structure.

Before brickwork can be accurately priced and started, however, the project may require architectural drawings, planning information, Building Regulations details or structural calculations.

Where professional design input is required, ITM Brickwork can recommend architects from our established network and help clients bring the right people into the project at an early stage.

When Professional Drawings May Be Needed

Not every brickwork project requires an architect, but larger or more complex works often need professional design and technical information before construction begins.

New Builds & Outbuildings

New buildings usually require a much more complete design package covering layout, elevations, materials, construction details and relevant approvals.

House Extensions

Rear, side-return, single-storey and larger extensions may require drawings showing dimensions, elevations, construction details and how the new structure connects with the existing property.

Structural Alterations

Projects involving new openings, changes to load-bearing walls, steelwork or other structural alterations may require coordinated architectural drawings and structural engineering calculations.

Planning-Sensitive Projects

Properties in conservation areas, listed buildings and projects affected by local planning restrictions can require additional professional advice before work proceeds.

How the Collaboration Works

1. Tell Us What You Want to Build

We start by understanding the proposed brickwork and the overall scope of the project.

2. Identify What Is Needed

If the project would benefit from architectural drawings or additional professional input, we can explain this early rather than allowing construction assumptions to develop.

3. Connect With an Architect

Where appropriate, we can introduce you to a professional architect from our network who can discuss the design, drawings and relevant application requirements with you.

4. Prepare for Construction

Once the necessary information is available, ITM Brickwork can review the brickwork requirements, prepare the quotation and coordinate our work with the project drawings.

Have a Project in Mind but Not Sure Where to Start?

Whether you already have detailed drawings or are still at the idea stage, speak to ITM Brickwork about your project.

Planning Permission, Building Regulations & Structural Design

These requirements are not the same and will depend on the type and location of the project.

An architect or other suitably qualified professional can advise on the drawings and applications that may be required. Where structural calculations or engineering design are needed, a structural engineer may also need to be involved.

ITM Brickwork focuses on the construction itself while working from the appropriate project drawings and technical information.

Already Working With an Architect?

No problem.

Our architect network is there to help clients who need a professional recommendation — it is not a requirement for working with ITM Brickwork.

If you already have an architect, designer, structural engineer or main contractor, we are happy to work with your existing project team and coordinate the brickwork directly from their drawings and specifications.
